The famous Spanish region of Costa Cálida is located on the Mediterranean coast of the province of Murcia and has a length of 250 kilometers, running from the beaches of El Mojón in the province of Alicante, Costa Blanca, to the beach of Los Cocedores on the border of the Almeria coast.
Lots of sun and little rain with more than 18 degrees on average per year, are the characteristics of this coastal area, its location in the Gulf of Mazarrón, prevents the entry of cold waters of the Atlantic from Gibraltar and this makes the sea of the warmest Murcian coast in Spain, with an average of five degrees warmer on its beaches than others.
There are cliffs, coves and sandbars. It is, in general terms, a barren and steep coast. The natural richness of its waters is remarkable in Cabo de Palos, where there is an important marine reserve. There are also various protected natural areas, such as the Salinas and Arenales of San Pedro del Pinatar, Calblanque, Monte de las Cenizas and Peña del Águila, Sierra de la Muela, Cabo Tiñoso and Roldán, the regional park of Cabo Cope and Puntas of Calnegre or the protected landscape of Cuatro Calas.
The northern end of this coastline includes the Mar Menor, a saltwater coastal lagoon which, at around 170 km², is the largest in Europe. The Mar Menor is separated from the Mediterranean by a 22 km strip of sand called La Manga, on which one of the pillars of tourist development in the region has been built.
The Costa Cálida is a wonderful place, full of multiple advantages, whether for its climate, unique and healthy, for its gastronomy, which offers traditional Mediterranean dishes with their own identity, its magnificent beaches, many of which have been awarded the Distinctive "Q" of Tourist Quality, especially for water sports enthusiasts, since it is home to many renowned diving, windsurfing or sailing schools, as well as several high-level sports centers linked to Olympic sports are located on its banks.
Without detracting from the wide range of possibilities offered to golfers, since there are numerous golf courses scattered throughout the province, all of them of high quality, some of them internationally renowned.
The fact is that whether for its ancient cities full of history, of Roman or Arab origin, its luxury hotels or its inexpensive campsites, its luxurious restaurants or small charming cafes, its luxurious spa centers or its thermal resorts modest, everyone will find something to their liking.
The Costa Cálida is accessible by road, train and plane through Corvera Airport, which is equidistant from almost every town on the Murcian coast. They effectively structure communications from the north to the south of the Costa Cálida.
The proximity of several hospitals, strategically located, ensures health care for all people, whether residents or visitors, with a high level of professionalism and deployment of means, in addition, various health centers distributed throughout the Coastal cities ensure all potential users do not have to make long journeys to access health centers.
There are also several renowned bilingual schools such as the Licée Francés de Murcia, spread throughout the Costa Cálida.
To all these options, we must also add the historic port city of Cartagena, with a multitude of monuments, museums and architectural treasures of yesteryear. This city was a strategic fortified Mediterranean port for more than two thousand years.
In addition to all this, it is worth mentioning the proximity to Sierra Nevada, located in Andalusia, and the southernmost ski resort in Europe and the highest altitude on the Iberian Peninsula.
Sierra Nevada is well known for being the only mountain range with 150 skiable kilometers in southern Spain, its highest peak, Veleta at 3,300 meters above sea level and its good climate.
In winter there is a large agglomeration of people from all countries who come to practice winter sports and in summer all kinds of mountain and outdoor sports are practiced (cycling, horse riding, hiking, climbing, etc. ).
If there is something that can be said about the Costa Cálida, it is that dreams are within the reach of all budgets, practically in all the towns in its territory you can find a housing solution according to your possibilities, from the luxury complex or high standard urbanization, even the most modest and affordable homes, without compromising the quality or quantity of the services they offer, including campsites with excellent facilities on the beach.
Depending on the area where you are located, the range of possibilities is very wide, from single-family houses to townhouses in urbanizations relatively close to the beach, up to luxury apartment towers with sea views, bungalows and more affordable apartments, in modern urbanizations with communal swimming pool, up to urbanizations with high quality villas, chalets or plots for sale, all with beautiful well-kept gardens, also houses for sale with sea views and many of them by the sea.
Until a few years ago, most of the purchase-sale operations on the Costa Cálida were based on the national client, who could well be from the same province, many residents of the city of Murcia established their second residence along the entire coast, or clients from the rest of Spain.
This trend has changed over the years and more and more foreign citizens are establishing their residence on the Costa Cálida, thanks to its very healthy subtropical climate, with a profusion of means, services and facilities in line with the requirements of modern times .
The diversity of real estate, as well as the quality of new constructions favor the acquisition of houses by new owners, because we can be assured with absolute certainty that on the Costa Cálida there are possibilities for all budgets.
Due to its cultural, historical, gastronomic and landscape richness, the Region of Murcia and more particularly the Costa Cálida is one of the references in terms of international tourism.
SAN JAVIER – SANTIAGO DE LA RIBERA
Located on the coast of the Mar Menor, in its territory dedicated to agricultural and marine activities, the coastal towns of Santiago de la Ribera and La Manga del Mar Menor stand out, both of which have an eminently tourist character. Currently, this modern-looking population has a beautiful promenade and retains its fishing village flavor. La Manga, belonging to a large part of its extension to the municipality of San Javier, offers the possibility of choosing between two seas with different temperatures, salinities and waves. In addition, its special qualities for water sports and a wide range of leisure and accommodation options make it a magnificent tourist destination.
SAN PEDRO DEL PINATAR – LO PAGÁN
Facing the calm waters of the Mar Menor, San Pedro del Pinatar is one of the main tourist destinations on the Murcia coast.
San Pedro del Pinatar, a traditional maritime and agricultural core, has 14 km of beaches spread between two seas, the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean Sea.
San Pedro's main attractions are concentrated in its coastal frontage.
Its strategic location and environmental qualities have made it a highly sought-after residential area.
On the coast is Lo Pagán, a bustling tourist center that offers all kinds of tourist services such as hotels, bars, restaurants and shops. Next to its long promenade, located in front of the Mar Menor, there are extensive beaches such as La Puntica or Villananitos. This aquatic environment, combined with the facilities of its marina, will allow you to practice many sports, such as sailing, scuba diving or windsurfing.
The environment allows you to visit the Regional Park of the Salt Flats of San Pedro del Pinatar, a space in which many species of migratory birds nest. The place will also allow you to benefit from the therapeutic properties of its muds, particularly suitable for the treatment of bone and dermatological diseases.
LOS ALCÁZARES
On the shores of the Mar Menor and with its seven kilometers of beach, Los Alcázares is an ideal enclave with urban beaches with extensive promenades and a full range of leisure activities.
You will find Los Alcázares in Murcia, 24 kilometers from the city of Cartagena and just 5 kilometers from the San Javier military airport. Its name, of Arabic origin, means palace and comes from the vacation homes that, in their time, were built in this coastal town. The majority are single-family and semi-detached houses of 2 heights facing the sea. You will discover that Los Alcázares is a very healthy destination and it is an ideal place if you like water sports (sailing, windsurfing or kayaking), cycling or golf. It has two fabulous courses, La Serena Golf and Roda Golf.
Its flat terrain, beaches, activities and services make Los Alcázares a quiet and comfortable setting to enjoy your vacation.
THE MANGA DEL MAR MENOR
La Manga is a curious orographic whim that has been one of the symbols that best identifies the Murcian coast as a tourist enclave: a 24 km strip of sand between Cabo de Palos and Punta del Mojón, which sets natural limits to the salt water lagoon known as Mar Menor. Originally, what is currently called La Manga del Mar Menor was a bay open to the Mediterranean; At its ends, reefs of volcanic rocks have gradually acted as brakes for the sand and sediments carried by the marine currents, until forming a sandy column of dunes and wild vegetation and vast beaches washed by two seas, the Mediterranean and the Mar Menor.
La Manga is a narrow strip of land whose width varies between 200m and 1.5km. It is cut by natural channels which maintain contact between the two seas; the so-called golas allow entry into Mediterranean waters in the lagoon. As such, it remained pristine until the 1960s, when La Manga was "discovered" as a tourist enclave, undergoing transformation with the urbanization of the area and the construction of tourist infrastructure.
Nowadays, everything at La Manga is designed to make the stay more pleasant for the visitor. Comprehensive hotel facilities with a network of top-rated establishments (a five-star hotel, among others), located at strategic points, residential apartment complexes, marinas, sailing schools, leisure centers, supermarkets , shops, bars, nightclubs... everything you need for those looking for a complete vacation. In winter and autumn, La Manga continues to operate, as it has a constant population throughout the year. Winter is ideal for those looking for tranquility, having the necessary infrastructure and services.
